The National ED Inventories (NEDI) was featured in a Healthcare Brew article about the nature and increasing prevalence of freestanding emergency departments (FSEDs) in the U.S. This article references research conducted by Darya Herscovici along with colleagues at EMNet. Data from NEDI indicate that in 2001 there were only 50 FSEDs, whereas in 2022 there were 841 FSEDs totaling over 13.7 million patient visits.
